Great personal trainers like James Singer are defined by a long list of past satisfied clients who consistently refer other new clients. I am happy to provide this testimonial for James Singer whom I have observed training many satisfied clients over the past several years.

As the President of the National Personal Training Institute of Colorado, I have the privilege of interacting with many great personal trainers and I can honestly say that James is indeed one of the great ones.

What makes James a “great” trainer? He truly cares about his clients and that is obvious with each and every client whom I see James training day in and day out. Several of James’ clients have expressed to me just how happy they are with James and his ability to keep them motivated and how skilled he is in pushing them hard enough to achieve results with each training session.

I am proud to say that James is a graduate of the National Personal Training Institute of Colorado. He proved soon after his graduation from NPTI Colorado and early in his career that he has what it takes to be a successful personal trainer (having been selected as a personal trainer manager by a major, national health club chain). James demonstrated the innate ability to teach other trainers to effectively achieve results with their clients. I remember being very impressed with James and how unusual it is for someone both so young and so new to the industry to be picked to lead and mentor other trainers. In fact, I sent other trainers who later graduated from NPTI to him so their careers could benefit from his positive mentoring.

Whether it’s training a client or mentoring other trainers, I believe the single greatest characteristic that distinguishes James Singer as a leader in the personal training field is a heartfelt and self-evident sense of caring for the client. I see it in the clients he trains, I hear it from the trainers he has mentored, and I know it to be at the very root of who and what he is as a personal trainer. I would gladly recommend James as a personal trainer to any of my own clients.

Dear James,

I am writing to you today to express my sincere gratitude for the personal training you have provided me over the past 3 years. I can’t express enough my thanks for the results we have achieved from our many hours in the gym working on building strength, muscle growth while learning the proper form and technique in weight lifting and overall good health. When I started my goal was 225 lbs on the bench press…With your help I was able to obtain a personal best at 325 LBS. You took my leg press to 905 lbs. Not bad for an old guy weighing in at 185 lbs

When we first met, you asked me what my goals were. After using other trainers in the past you were the first one who helped me achieve those goals. You listened and understood what I wanted to accomplish in my workouts. Good money/time spent with your expertise and interest in my well being. We were able to work through the aches and pains in a manner that enabled me to continue my workouts and still gain strength in a safe and effective way.

Over the past year you have been working with my two sons (ages 17 & 23) and what a difference you have made. They have learned so much from you and they are hooked on weight lifting. Not only are they gaining muscle and strength but they are learning the right way to lift to avoid injury.

I was never excited about exercise, but I was turning 60 and had spent too many years in a sedentary job. I have MS, my balance was abysmal and I was tired of falling over. I have five grandchildren; and it has always been important to me to be the “cool” grandma—that meant I needed greater strength and stamina to keep up with them. It seemed like the best thing I could do to reach those goals was to go to the gym and get fit. It just wasn’t happening on my own, so I decided I needed a personal trainer. I worked with a few trainers, and it was when I started working with Marie that things really started to click. My photos from just the past two months show an improved me as a result of exercise and a better diet. I am becoming stronger and have gained greater balance than I have had in years. Marie has taught me to find and strengthen my core, proper form, the types of movements/exercise needed to target problem areas, and the importance of good nutrition. She knows how to encourage and motivate me. I actually have developed an appreciation for a good workout. I stand straighter, I am developing some muscle definition (who knew I had muscles?) and my abdominal muscles are stronger and flatter than I think they have ever been! I continue to work on the original goals and added additional ones of being cute and sassy. Marie is confident I will reach all my goals!

I met Marie the day my doctor told me my cholesterol was very high and told me I could address this with better nutrition and fitness. Marie put me on a nutrition plan and I worked with her 3 days a week and 3 on my own. I followed her plan and advice religiously and in 4 months I lost 35lbs and built a lot of muscle and definition. I could not have done this without Marie. Her training skills are fantastic, focus on form, build the core first; but her faith, attitude and drive made all the difference. I am 5’ 4” tall and 57 years old. I was always thin and fairly fit until my 50s.

The physical changes that come for women of that age were not kind to me. Seemingly overnight, my body composition and shape changed—and not for the good. My clothes were uncomfortable, and I felt weak. I had gained about 20 pounds and lots of inches in just 2 or 3 years, especially in my waist, hips, and abdomen. I didn’t like it, but I didn’t know how to effectively deal with it.

In January 2014, I decided that it was time to find a trainer who would understand what I needed and who would customize workouts for me as an individual so that I would see results. Honestly, I felt pretty discouraged about my prospects for progress.

I found the right trainer for me in Marie Borquez. The first day I met with her for an assessment, we took my measurements and I cried. My body statistics were even worse than I thought! Marie said, “That’s okay. You’re here now and we’re going to help you take care of yourself.” So I composed myself, bought some stretchy workout clothes, and came to the gym ready to do whatever she asked of me.

We started with things that I could handle, and we talked about nutrition. I ate more chicken, fish, whole grains, and green vegetables, and less red meat and dessert. I worked out with Marie for 50 minutes, two days a week, and did some additional workouts independently on other days. I started to see positive changes in just 2 weeks and felt a glimmer of hope.

In 6 months, I lost 13 pounds (from142.2 pounds to 129.2 lb.), decreased my body fat from 47% to 36%, and lost 8.5 inches from my waist and 3 inches from my hips, even though I went on some vacations and experienced a bout with shingles and ate some less-than-ideal food occasionally. I have gained some muscle and have more energy. I feel more like my old self and am buying clothes a size smaller these days.

The quest for less body fat, more muscle, and better fitness continues.

In May of 1999 I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis. I was 58 years old. My T-score was -2.9. I went to a osteoporosis specialist, who immediately put me on every drug that was out there. It was going to be an aggressive approach. 3 years later my T-score was -3.3. Nothing was working and I started to read every article I could find on Osteoporosis. I was doing some things right. I took calcium, Vitamin D, Boron I was walking on a regular basis, but there was one thing that was missing and that was weight lifting. Me lift weights! I hadn’t been in a gym since I was in high school.Seven years ago, I got serious. I found a trainer and started lifting weights in the gym once a week. It was a slow process. I was a real klutz and my body wasn’t strong. I celebrated when I could do standing curls lifting 5 pound weights. My T-score began to improve and I began feeling physically much better. Several months ago I thought to myself: “why I am driving 25 minutes to a gym, when there is a gym right down the street from where I live and I could walk! I walked over to Laurel Fitness. When I walked through the door at Laurel Fitness I was l immediately greeted with a warm smile and a handshake by Laurel, the owner. I ask her if she had a trainer that specialized in rehabilitation training, because I had Osteoporosis and needed a trainer who would know the type of exercises I needed to build bone mass. She introduced me to James Singer.The next day I had my first training session with James and it was great. He was patient, understanding and had me doing things that I thought I could never do!! James trains me twice week these are the best days of the week for me. Each session is different and exciting as I wonder what he is going to have me do next. I am now much stronger and my balance has improved 100%. I like the challenge that James provides me at every training session. James introduces each new exercise to me by doing it himself. This is helpful for me because I need to see what I am going to do and the proper way to perform the exercise. He always explains to me what group of muscles I am going to be working. The good news is that because of James’ knowledge and training skills I am growing bone mass, feeling stronger and have more energy.
